Catherine Price

Catherine is co-founder and co-Editor-in-Chief of Salt. When not freelancing or lip-synching, she can be found philosophizing on the metaphorical significance of the Container Store for her essay collection, Keats Was Dead By 25. In addition to actual reporting work, she specializes in what she calls "uncomfortable experiences of personal growth" that include (but are not limited to) teaching Latin and math at an all-boys middle school, taking trapeze and improv comedy classes, teaching hip hop aerobics in Beijing, paragliding in South Africa, biking across the United States, and leading ice-skating classes for five-year-olds. A graduate of Yale and UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, she's freelanced for publications including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Washington Post Magazine, Popular Science, Salon, Men's Journal, Mother Jones, Health Magazine, O, The Oprah Magazine, and Outside, among others. She's done a couple of commentaries for NPR's Marketplace, and started an online business selling legally themed underwear called Illegal Briefs -- because there are times when everyone needs a "request for admission" thong. She's writing a cookbook for The Big Sur Bakery, and is a blogger for Salon's "Broadsheet," where she regularly incurs reader comments signed with taglines like "I'll Bring The Cheese, Since You Brought The Whine." Catherine is scared of mimes.

Some of her other features include Writer in a Jar interviews with Jonathan Ames, Peter Hyman, A.J. Jacobs, Jason Reich, Hilton Als and Gina Kolata.
